Newest Shingles Feature Innovative Technology from 3M

If you live in an area that sees lots of sun and heat, has smog and/or gets severe weather, such as hail, you should consider installing one of Atlas Roofing’s two new shingle products — Pinnacle® Sun or Pinnacle® Impact — on your roof.

With benefits including 3M™ Cool Roof Technology, 3M™ Smog-Reducing Granules, Class 4 impact resistance, HP42® technology and 3M™ Scotchgard™ Protector, Pinnacle® Sun and Pinnacle® Impact offer some of the most unique features of any other asphalt shingles on the market today.

Let’s break down the innovation found in each shingle…

A Cooler Roof That Helps Lower Energy Bills

Manufactured with 3M™ Cool Roof Technology, Pinnacle® Sun shingles are made to reflect the sun’s radiant heat away from your roof, reducing the amount of heat that enters your home. By keeping indoor air temperature lower, you reduce your home’s cooling needs, thereby increasing its energy efficiency and lowering a/c bills.

Pinnacle® Sun shingles are produced to meet the Cool Roof Rating Council’s standards for its Solar Reflective Index (SRI) and may comply with city and state building codes for reflectivity.

Because of their reflective capability, these shingles are especially effective in climates with year-round cooling needs, especially in the Southeastern U.S.

A Smarter Roof That Works Like Trees to Reduce Smog

Inspired by the power of trees, Pinnacle® Sun and Pinnacle® Impact shingles are both manufactured with 3M Smog-Reducing Granules that feature a photocatalytic coating, which, when activated by sunlight, converts smog into water-soluble ions, helping improve air quality.

On an average-sized roof, these shingles have a smog-fighting capacity of 2-3 trees.

Class 4 Hail Impact Protection

Made with special polymers that give them a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, Pinnacle® Impact shingles have been proven to resist hail-induced dents and dings.

To receive this rating classification from the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS) and Underwriters Laboratories (UL), a shingle must be able to withstand the rigorous testing of a simulated hailstorm, in which hailstones up to 2inches in diameter fall at 90 mph.

And while Pinnacle® Impact is the newest Atlas shingle with a Class 4 impact rating, Atlas StormMaster® Shake shingles have been the top-rated Class 4 shingles for the past three years by the IBHS.

Secure Installation Built to Handle High Winds

Both Pinnacle products incorporate HP42® technology, which features a wider 42-inch format compared to the 36-inch width of most standard shingles. This means they are faster to install (because less shingles are needed) and result in a quicker cleanup (due to less waste —on the job site and going into landfills).

HP42® shingles also have a 1½-inch Sweet Spot™ nailing area that helps your roofer hit the mark every time for a proper installation, while a FASTAC® double sealant line ensures a secure seal that helps to keep shingles in place during the roughest conditions —something that is crucial to Pinnacle® Sun and Pinnacle® Impact shingles since they are made to withstand up to 130 mph winds.

Protect Your Roof From Algae and Discoloration

Both new shingles feature 3M™ Scotchgard™ Protector, which helps prevent ugly black algae stains.

This is due to copper-containing granules with a proprietary 3M™ porous ceramic coating that slowly releases copper ions, helping your roof look newer, longer and maintaining its beauty for years to come.

This technology combination is especially important in the Pinnacle® Sun shingle, as algae buildup and black streaks reduce the effectiveness of reflective shingles over time.

Built to Last. Designed to Look Great.

When installed as part of an Atlas Signature Select® Roof System, which includes all Atlas roofing components (underlayment, hip and ridge shingles, roofing shingles, starter shingles and/or ventilation), Pinnacle® Sun and Pinnacle® Impact come with a Lifetime Limited Warranty.

In addition to functionality, both shingles offer gorgeous color palettes.

Inspired by coastal regions, Pinnacle® Sun options include gorgeous cool gray, bluish-gray and sandy-beige hues, while Pinnacle® Impact offers shades of steely grays and desert browns.

Smarter Shingle Technology Backed by Real Performance

Don’t just take our word for it — do your research and discover how the built-in technologies found in Pinnacle® Sun and Pinnacle® Impact shingles outshine competitors.

Pinnacle® Sun, in particular, with its reflectivity, smog-reducing capability and lifetime warranty against black stains and streaks, is the most innovative shingle available today. With Pinnacle® Impact’s Class 4 impact-resistance rating, combined with the same smog-reducing granules and lifetime algae-resistance warranty of Pinnacle® Sun, both shingles hammer the competition, providing superior performance and tremendous value for homeowners.
